Yesterday was a very exciting day! It was the groundbreaking of our craftsman farmhouse! Darren and I met with Reuben, our Construction Superintendent at our homesite and they have officially started the build. YAY! We finalized our home gallery/design center selections 2 weeks ago and they submitted those orders to the construction department. I love how organized this builder works, and they let us know every step of the way during the process.
Although we both have seen houses being built, this time it’s different because it is OUR home! I can’t even explain the thrill that we had when we saw the wood forms on our lot and the dirt and trenches being dug. Oh boy, I have never been more excited about dirt than yesterday, and they started putting the plumbing drains in! We could see where the powder room is going to be, as well as the kitchen island where my farmhouse sink is! 🙂
Before they put the wooden forms in the soil to serve as a template for the foundation, the construction crew had to clear the site of rocks, debris, trees, and the septic system using a backhoe and a bulldozer. Then they had to level the site and dig the holes and trenches. After that, the footings are installed.
It was our very first time wearing the hard hats yesterday! It felt so surreal when Reuben gave each of us a hat before we drove to our homesite.
More paperwork to sign while Darren walked around the site to take photos:
Every 2 weeks from this point on, the Construction team will contact us to keep us posted on the progress of the house. We can’t wait to see them pour the concrete foundation at our next check-in.
